Every singer, every performer has been where you are…The secret is learning how to get through it.

Perhaps you sing quietly, or maybe you wait until nobody is home. You feel music so deeply, yet somehow freeze the moment your own voice comes out.

I know that feeling well.

For years, singing felt tangled up with nervousness, tension, embarrassment, overthinking — even though music itself always felt natural to me. Somewhere along the way, many of us learned to become careful with our voices. Careful not to sound like “too much.” Careful not to sound imperfect. Mind’s reeling when in front of others, whether family or strangers.

I worked through those what-if’s. Slowly, honestly. And I wrote it all down.

What helped me most was looking at it through someone else’s eyes — specifically, Joni Mitchell’s. I searched for everything I could find about her early beginnings. The struggles, the hesitations, the way she found her voice through it all. Somewhere in that searching, I began uncovering the same things within myself.

Sing Without Fear was born from that journey. Inside are the things that helped me find my voice — physically, emotionally, creatively. Small shifts that made singing feel more natural instead of tense and frightening.

And because this is a weekend reset, I’ve included a workbook to help you write and reflect — with practical vocal guidance and ways to reconnect with singing without so much pressure sitting on top of it.

This book is based on my interpretations of Joni Mitchell’s experiences. And it was written for you.

There's something about standing at a mic that never gets easier.

I've been sitting with Joni Mitchell's "You Turn Me On I'm a Radio" lately — a song about longing to be heard, to finally get through to someone. And I think that's what so many of us carry when we step toward our own voice.

This is me, hands on the guitar, showing up anyway.

Somewhere along the way, sharing your voice didn’t feel safe anymore. You learned to hold back. That’s not your personality. It’s just fear.

If this feels familiar, you are not alone.

I know what it feels like to be terrified to sing and to hold back because of fear or self-doubt and working through that was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. Over time music became a place of healing instead of fear.

I spent months writing a book called, Sing Without Fear because I wanted to create the kind of encouragement and guidance I wish I had when I was struggling. Every page comes from lived experience late night, hard lesson lessons and a deep love from music and storytelling I truly hope it helps you to overcome and to feel a little less alone.
